HIRI doubles down on research

The Home Improvement Research Institute is a planning a blockbuster, two-day event in September that promises to deliver details, data, and even design ideas.


The 2016 HIRI Insights Conference scheduled for Sept. 27-28 at the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza downtown on the Chicago River, will host a variety of research-driven presentations. Fom Zelman Associates on the “most frequently asked questions in housing” to “The social media habits of the millennial homeowner,” from 



Brunnerworks, the event will pack a variety of home improvement themes.


“We are excited to showcase presentations from a number of industry leaders,” said Pam Heidel, managing director of HIRI. “We’ll be looking at industry sales and stats, but also design and homeowner trends, incorporating both hard data and the softer side of the business.”


The move to a two-day format featuring a vendor fair was based on member feedback. Attendees will have more time to network with each other, as well as with sponsors and vendors.


One of the headliners is Ivy Zelman, a highly sought-after presenter in the home building industry. Her presentation will address the following questions: “Why has growth been slower than expected? What if the economy goes into a recession? Are millennials interested in homeownership?


Also on the agenda, speakers will tackle homeowner and pro attitudes toward the online home services market (presented by the Farnsworth Group) and Omnichannel Retail’s Rise in the World of Brick and Mortar (presented by Kantar Retail).

Early registration for non-HIRI members before Aug. 12 is $899. After that, regular registration is $999.


HIRI is membership-based not-for-profit organization of manufacturers, retailers, and wholesalers in home improvement. Its mission is to be recognized as the primary authority for effective, useful information about home improvement products and services in North America.
