Gree recalls 12 brands of dehumidifiers

Gree Electric Appliances of China is recalling 12 brands of dehumidifiers due to serious fire and burn hazards, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC).

The announcement cited 165 incident reports, including 46 fires and $2.15 million in property damage. No injuries have been reported.

The dehumidifiers can overheat, smoke and catch fire, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers, according to the recall announcement. 

This recall involves 20, 25, 30, 40, 45, 50, 65 and 70-pint dehumidifiers with brand names Danby, De’Longhi, Fedders, Fellini, Frigidaire, Gree, Kenmore, Norpole, Premiere, Seabreeze, SoleusAir and SuperClima.

The recall affects about 2.2 million products in the United States and 52,500 in Canada. The long list of model numbers can be found at the USCPSC site here.

The products were sold at retailers including Home Depot, Kmart, Lowe’s, Menards, Mills Fleet Farm, Sears and other stores nationwide and in Canada, and online at Amazon.com and Ebay.com, from January 2005 through August 2013 for between $110 and $400.
