Follow up: Back to the U.S.A.

2/20/2018

In last month’s “Made in the U.S.A.” cover story, Home Channel News looked at domestic manufacturing and asked: “Is it the next big thing?” One answer came in a survey from members of the American Hardware Manufacturers Association. The poll suggested it was more likely for manufacturers to move manufacturing overseas (25%) than to bring it back to the United States (8%).

Just after the issue went to press, however, came another answer. Pensacola, Fla.-based Hy-Lite/U.S. Block Windows announced that its Hy-Lite vinyl extrusion purchases and acrylic block manufacturing out of China have been moved back to the United States.

The company’s facility in Florida and a contract molding company in Ohio are making acrylic blocks, bringing jobs to Americans both directly and indirectly, said Roger Murphy, president. “Every job counts,” he said, adding: “We feel exception ally good that we can say all our acrylic block and extrusions are now made in America.”
