Consolidation in outdoor products
Four Seasons Building Products scored its second acquisition this year, this time with the purchase of Superior Mason Products, a manufacturer and distributor of patio and other related building products.
With the move, FSBP says it extends “market share leadership to nearly 50%” for products including patio covers, pergolas, pool enclosures, carports, screens, awnings and patio rooms.
FSBP is owned by Latium USA, a privately held manufacturer of outdoor living improvement products in North America. Superior Mason has been an industry leader in the U.S. for over 70 years, with manufacturing facilities in Birmingham and branch locations in Raleigh, N.C.; Kansas City, Mo.; and Dallas.
A 2015 merger between longtime Birmingham manufacturers and aluminum product distributors Mason Corporation and Superior Metal Products, respectively—SMP's branches will now be incorporated into the Four Seasons Building Products network.
"Becoming part of Four Seasons Building Products further cements us as the only national player while expanding our reach and offerings," said Larry Berryhill of Birmingham, formerly with SMP and now VP and general manager of Four Seasons Building Products – East, which will incorporate both SMP and FSBP businesses.
"We are excited to add Superior Mason Products to our Four Seasons Building Products family," said Steve C. Stephens, President of Four Seasons Building Products and Business Development Officer for Latium USA. "Together with our acquisition of AlumaLine earlier this year, this cements our position as the leading national manufacturer of outdoor patio cover products, with three dedicated factories and 22 service centers across North America."
"We can now provide even more high-quality products to our 7,000 plus professional dealers, contractors, distributors, builders and commercial customers," Stephens continued. "Our strong brands will all remain, and we look forward to delivering even better service and a wider assortment of outdoor living products."
A little background: Latium USA acquired Metals USA in 2013 and formed the Four Seasons Building Products business, based in Holbrook, N.Y.
Shaun Kennedy, CEO Latium USA, highlighted the progress, stating that, "We are committed to the outdoor products space and continue to grow both organically and through key, high-quality acquisitions. Our business has now tripled in the last two years. We will continue to look for a sensible combination of organic growth and acquisitions into the immediate future."
Latium USA and its board were advised by Sphaeris Capital Management LLC, a specialist in add-on acquisition programs, middle market mergers & acquisitions, and proprietary investments globally. This investment marks Latium USA's third acquisition and collaboration with Sphaeris Capital in a program to grow Latium's residential and commercial building products platform.
