Around the Web: Roper Bros. expected to close
Roper Bros. Lumber Co., the Petersburg, Va.-based pro dealer, is expected to file for bankruptcy protection over the next few days, according to several media reports.
Newspapers in Lynchburg, Richmond, and Fredericksburg, citing Roper’s employees and customers, reported that the 100-year-old business stopped doing business on Dec. 11.
Roper Bros. expanded in 2006 with the acquisition of Taylor Brothers Lumber, ending the year with nine locations and $170 million in revenues. In 2008, the family-owned company operated five locations with sales of $99.5 million. It ranked #72 on the Home Channel News Top 350 Pro Dealer Scoreboard.
