AMES promotes 242-year business
Camp Hill, Pennsylvania-based AMES Companies is promoting its history that predates the founding of the United States, when Captain John Ames formed the first shovel in his blacksmithing shop in the colonies in 1774.
For more than 242 years, AMES tools have been instrumental in building America. Today, The AMES Companies is the largest manufacturer of lawn, garden, and landscape and professional hand tools in the U.S. While it has grown into a global company, AMES is committed to manufacturing products in the U.S., and its distribution and customer service is handled by employees in the U.S., as well, the company said.
The AMES Companies manufactures lawn and garden tools for homeowners, jobsite tools for professionals, and outdoor lifestyle products. The company’s brands include AMES, Jackson Professional Tools, Razor-Back Professional Tools, Southern Patio, True Temper and UnionTools.
“A company as old as the Ames establishment is more than just a business or an industrial complex,” concluded a chronicle of the company and its founders published by Stonehill College on the 200th anniversary of The AMES Companies founding. “It has touched so many facets of our national life and history that it has taken on the character of an American institution.”
