Acord and Somerville earn NLBMDA honors

2/20/2018

Colorado Springs, Colorado -- In one of his last official duties as chairman of the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association, J.D. Saunders of Campbell, California-based Economy Lumber recognized two LBM industry leaders for their career service.

Retired independent dealer Woodie Acord and current LMC president and CEO John Somerville were called to the stage here during the 2015 ProDealer Industry Summit NLBMDA Installation Dinner. Their NLBMDA Chairman's Awards are inscribed: "In recognition of dedicated service and outstanding contributions to the NLBMDA and the Lumber and Building Material Industry."

Both were surprised by the recognition, and both received warm ovations.

Acord describes himself as retired from the business, but continues to play a role at NLBMDA events. He was the guiding force behind the single-unit Acord's Home Center in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and served on the NLBMDA board of directors for several years in a variety of positions.

"During his tenure on the board Woody would make thoughtful contributions, quietly -- but they carried such great weight," said Saunders.

John Somerville has worked in many capacities in the LBM business for 37 years and has earned a reputation for his passion for the industry. He's been active in numerous industry groups, including the NLBMDA, the National Association of Home Builders and Habitat for Humanity.

In his brief remarks from the podium, Somerville said getting the next generation of dealers involved in united efforts of the lumber industry is a worthy goal.

"I'm privileged to be part of this organization," he said. "Let's all work together and make it great."

The 2015 ProDealer Industry Summit runs through Oct. 30 here at the Broadmoor Resort.
