84 Lumber's sales reached $1.35 billion last year
84 Lumber, the industry’s third largest pro dealer, has reported annual sales figures of $1.35 billion for fiscal 2009. This compares with sales of $2.1 billion in 2008, $3.1 billion in 2007 and $3.92 billion in 2006, just before the downturn of the home-building industry. About 95% of 84 Lumber's business comes from new housing construction.
The privately owned company, based in Eighty Four, Pa., did not release net income figures.
Jeff Nobers, VP marketing and public relations, attributed the declines to a year where total housing starts "were less than half of a normal market."
The company has consolidated in a number of markets and now operates 300 units, compared with 319 stores it owned in more than 150 markets this time last year.
