84 Lumber film spotlights veteran
As part of 84 Lumber’s Operation Appreciation, honoring U.S. military and veterans during the month of May, the company shared the personal story of veteran and employee Nick Chestnut.
Based out of 84 Lumber’s Summerville, S.C. store, Chestnut served in the U.S. Air Force for 8 years before becoming a regional recruiter at the pro dealer.
Chestnut recently told his story about making the transition from serving in the Air Force to working for 84 Lumber via a short film on YouTube.
“To know that we were going to work every day to do a job that was impactful for the safety, the security, the freedom of our country – that put meaning behind what we did every single day,” Chestnut says in the video.
After joining 84 Lumber, Chestnut said he found a culture that reminded him a lot of military – especially when it came to the drive and work ethic of his fellow employees.
In addition to sharing Chestnut’s story, 84 Lumber maintains “Combat Wounded” purple parking spaces at its stores, offers military and veteran discounts, and puts an emphasis on hiring former military members. About 350 veterans work for the company.
Earlier this week, 84 Lumber announced a contest and will award $8,400 worth of 84 Lumber store credit to three current or veteran military members or families in need of home repairs or improvements.
Based in Eighty-Four, Pa., 84 Lumber operates 250 locations in 30 states.
