84 Lumber contest to award veterans

5/2/2018
84 Lumber is hosting its third annual Operation Appreciation campaign this month.

The pro dealer is holding a contest that will award an $8,400 store credit to three current or veteran military members or families in need of home repairs or improvements.

84 Lumber will accept nominations between May 1 and May 25 via an online contest platform. One winner will be selected each week starting May 7 and ending the week of May 21. The winners will be contacted directly and announced on the company’s social media channels. Nominees will be evaluated on need along with proximity to an 84 Lumber store, among other criteria, the company said.

“Operation Appreciation is one of our favorite initiatives each year,” said 84 Lumber’s Vice President of Marketing Amy Smiley. “This program allows us to honor heroes from communities across the country while also giving back to those who have given so much.”

In addition to the contest, 84 Lumber is providing a 10% discount to all military personnel. The discount has also been extended to first responders and applies year-round.

84 Lumber is also providing custom care packages that will be deployed to military members worldwide. Additionally, all of the dealer’s associates have been given Operation Appreciation t-shirts.

Combat Wounded purple parking spots are situated at 84 Lumber locations nationwide and the company puts a strong emphasis on hiring former military members: the Eighty-Four, Pa.-based dealer employs more than 350 veterans.

In total, 84 Lumber owns and operates more than 250 stores, component plants, door and millwork shops, and engineered wood product centers in 30 states.
