Throwback Thursday: Wickes Broadcasting Corp.
Corporate communications was no easy feat in 1980. There was no Youtube. There was no e-mail. There was no facsimile machine.
A photo and caption from the Dec. 15, 1980 profile of Wickes Lumber in National Home Center News, the forerunner of HBSDealer, illustrates the emphasis that the 280-unit Saginaw, Michigan-based Wickes Lumber placed on corporate communications.
The company taped quarterly messages to all Wickes employees – “so people in the field feel like they’re part of the company.”
The photo shows Wickes executives Paul Hylbert and Richard Barker in front of the camera. And in the control room, director of training services Charles Bogle (standing center) directed the show.
