84 Lumber promotes a VP

2/20/2018

84 Lumber has a new VP national sales in Jim Barbes, a 17-year veteran of the company.

Barbes began his career as a management trainee in New Jersey in 2000. Since then, he's worked as a manager, to an area manager in Cleveland, and then to an area manager in Northern Virginia/DC, where he led one of 84 Lumber’s most profitable regions.

As VP of National Sales, Barbes will be responsible for scaling business in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. regions and bringing consistency to the company’s sales process across the country.

"From the very first day at 84 Lumber, employees learn how their job directly impacts the company’s bottom line," said the company in a statement. "Whether it’s sweeping the floors or closing a multi-million dollar contract, everyone knows the role they play in the company’s business plan. Jim Barbes knows these roles better than anyone because he’s done it all. After 17 years, he now finds himself responsible for all National Sales for a $3.0B company."

84 Lumber is currently in the midst of a new recruitment campaign, with new stores opening across the country and major expansion initiatives on multiple fronts.

“My job will be pretty straightforward – keep 84 Lumber connected to the national builder’s needs at every single level of the organization,” explained Barbes. “I’m excited to take what I’ve learned at the regional level and apply that to our national sales team.”

“Sales is about relationships, and Jim understands that better than anyone,” said Maggie Hardy Magerko, president and owner of 84 Lumber. “I know our customers appreciate everything Jim does for them, and I know that our sales team will, too.”
