84 Lumber hires a real estate exec

2/20/2018

Following the company's March announcement that it was establishing a new office in Phoenix and doubling its footprint in the western U.S., 84 Lumber has hired John Hathaway to serve as VP real estate and development.

In his new role, Hathaway will oversee all of 84 Lumber's development strategies, including its forays into new markets, new store construction, and expansion in existing markets.

The company's current goals to expand in the West will build on its existing footprint in the region, which includes 19 stores across Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas.

“John is filling a critical role for us, as we look toward the development of more than a dozen new stores over the next 18 months in markets like Boston, Seattle, Salt Lake City, and Boise,” said 84 Lumber owner and president Maggie Hardy Magerko. “I am thrilled to have someone of his caliber and experience join the 84 family.”

Hathaway most recently was VP real estate and construction for Hanger, Inc., a medical device company, where he managed a portfolio of 1,200 leased and owned properties across the United States.

Prior to that, Hathaway served as VP real estate at Cinemark International, leading Cinemark’s expansion throughout South America, Asia and Europe.
