    Lumberyards are critical suppliers to the home-building industry. With escalating building material prices and labor shortages, builders are looking for more collaboration with their lumberyards. I recently had an opportunity to speak on a panel with executive management from two lumberyards. The audience of home builders was genuinely interested in collaboration.

  • Stanley Black & Decker welcomes a new chairman

    Stanley Black & Decker will be getting a new chairman in 2017.

    George Buckley, current lead independent director, will become chairman effective Jan. 1, 2017.

    He will succeed John Lundgren, who retired as CEO in July after more than 12 years with the company, and has been serving as chairman until year-end. Lundgren will serve as a special adviser to the company through April 30, 2017.

    Appliance maker Whirlpool Corporation’s board of directors has appointed James Loree, president and CEO of Stanley Black & Decker, Inc., to its board of directors.

    The move is effective immediately, according to Whirlpool who said that Loree will serve on the board’s audit committee and the corporate governance and nominating committee.

  • Family Farm & Home expands in Ohio

    Family Farm & Home, a specialty retailer of agricultural and home products, is opening up shop in Austintown and Bucyrus, Ohio.

    The new Austintown location boasts 45,000 sq. ft. of retail space at 4477 Mahoning Ave., with store manager Josh Sheetz at the helm.

    In Bucyrus, the 40,000-sq.-ft. store at 2460 E. Mansfield St. will be managed by Tim McLaughlin.
