Rocky’s Ace Hardware expands
Rocky’s Ace Hardware expanded its New England presence with the acquisition of a Midcoast Main hardware retailing icon -- Rogers Ace Hardware in Bath, Maine.
Rogers Ace Hardware has been serving its communities for over 140 years, being established in 1872. The current 28,000-sq.-ft. retail store has been operating just off Route 1 in Bath since 1985.
The acquisition brings Rocky’s to Maine for the first time. The company operates more than 30 other stores in states, including Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
“The acquisition of a new store in this market strengthens our presence in the Northeast and helps us serve the needs of the great community of MidCoast Maine,” said Rocco Falcone, president and CEO of Rocky’s Ace Hardware. “My family is proud to have the opportunity to be connected with this legendary business the fine folks at Rogers have had in place for so many generations.”
In the short term, the business will continue operating under the “Rogers” banner, and it will gradually change to “Rocky’s” over the next several months, the company said. Previous owner John Hichborne will remain on board during a transition period.
Rocky’s Ace Hardware was the recipient of the 2013 Golden Hammer Retailer of the Year Award, presented by Home Channel News, which is now HBSDealer.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to benefit from the Rocky’s family of hardware stores,” said John Hichborn. "I’m positive our customers are going to be impressed by their renowned customer service. I am genuinely pleased to find a fellow Ace retailer; the Falcone family, comprising of James, Claire and Rocco II; who have been running their enterprise for three generations to acquire our family business.”
