Delaware dealer hurt in store blaze

2/20/2018

A fire that that heavily damaged Burton Bros. Hardware in Seaford, Del., sent one of the store owners to the hospital for smoke inhalation, according to an article in the News Journal.

Ric and Ron Marvel, ages 58 and 62, both responded to the fire alarm at their store as members of the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department. It was Ric, the younger brother, who was injured.

Scores of firefighters from numerous fire companies arrived after the local volunteers and battled the blaze for two hours. One firefighter was treated at a local hospital for burns.

While a garage annex holding the store’s stock of large appliances escaped damage, the main hardware store -- built in 1893 and on the National Register of Historic Places -- sustained major water and smoke damage on the first and second floors. The cause is still under investigation.
